Is argentina a safe place to travel around these days?

My girlfriend and I, and 2 friends of ours are thinking about going to argentina in February 2013. We are all 25-28. We looking at going to a carnival and travelling around a little bit for a few weeks. Just wanted to know in general is it safe? Is there anywhere we should avoid? Also if anyone knows anywhere in particular we should visit? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
