How come there is such a big difference between Pakistan and India?

Take a look at this example.India and Pakistan. They used to be one nation before they were divided in 1947. One race - one people. What is the difference between these countries now, beside the violence level and living standards? Indian people are mostly Hindu and Buddhist while Pakistan is a Islamic country. Have you ever heard of a terrorist attack in Europe and the USA done by Indians? Doesn't that tell us how bad influence can Islam have on people?
