How can I get and use Amazon Kindle in Europe?

I live in Switzerland and I want a Kindle.
- When will it be available in Switzerland? In the UK?
- Can I use a Kindle purchased in the USA in Europe? I can live without the wireless access and only download through PC (I can get an US IP as proxy).
