What happens when judge orders supervised visits for man with his kids?

My childrens father has been violent and I have been told that due to the fact he has been violent to his/our children the judge order him to be supervised for a while with his children. We have not been to court yet but will be in 3 weeks.
My question is that his new partner has 2 children is he actually ok with them if he has hit his own children on numerous occasions???
